There are certain “brain foods” that can help with your child’s brain development. These foods can help improve brain function, memory, and concentration. Our brains are remarkable, they are in fact a very hungry organ.

Did you know that the brain is the first of the body’s organs to absorb nutrients from the food we eat? So, if you give your child’s body junk food, the brain is certainly going to suffer!

Try incorporating these foods into your child’s diet:

1. Oily fish (eg. salmon, tuna, sardines)

Fatty fish are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA).

Omega-3 is essential for brain growth and function.

2. Oats

Oats are a great energy source that fuels the brain.

Oats are also loaded with fiber, Vitamin B, zinc, and potassium- all of which help your child’s body and brain function at its best.

3. Berries (eg. Blueberries)

Blueberries are packed with antioxidants that protect brain-cell membranes from damage.

The antioxidants help increase plasticity, which helps brain cells form new connections, boosting learning and memory.

4. Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate is also high in antioxidants which may increase blood flow to the brain. Increased blood flow may help boost memory, improve attention span, increase reaction time, and improve problem-solving skills.

5. Avocado

Avo’s are an excellent source of good fats (unsaturated fats). This may lower the risk of cognitive decline.

6. Eggs

Eggs are a rich source of protein, and their yolks contain choline, which is an important nutrient for memory development.
