Do it yourself handy crafts, an easy way to entertain your little one’s at home. Sometimes we forget how easy it is to use everyday things we have in the house for crafts. Today we decided that painting pasta tubes, threading and making necklaces, was the perfect fun activity.
What do you need?
- Apron or old clothes
- String
- Scissors
- Paint brushes
- Tubular Pasta (any pasta that can be threaded)
- Acrylic paint (or any craft paint)
- Water in a little cup for cleaning paint brushes
- Cloth
This activity is great for any child needing a little assistance with fine motor skills. Getting those little fingers working is one of the best ways to practice fine motor and eye hand coordination skills.
What to do:
I set both kids up on the dinner table, placed some pasta in a bowl and let them loose!
Leja (5-year-old) enjoyed taking her time and not mixing her colours whilst Ricardo (6-year-old) loved mixing all the colours together.
You need to be light with the paint so the pasta doesn’t get too soggy, then spread it out and leave it to dry.
Once the pasta has been painted and has dried, you can start to thread it!
Just thread your noodles on some string or thin rope then simply tie a knot, and you’re ready to go. If you feel up for a challenge you can make matching bracelets that will go with your beautiful necklace. To do a bracelet I recommend getting stretchy string so that it can slide on and off your arm.
Sometimes it’s the little things in life that count the most, spending just a little bit of time with your little one each day makes the biggest impact. I’m very happy with our noodle results, the kids love them and we had a blast making them.
