We’ve tried many playdough recipes over the years and always come back to these two recipes below. It’s super quick and easy to make and much cheaper than buying ready made playdough. And, it’s just plain fun to have the kids help you make their very own silly putty or goop.
Instead of traditional playdough, which can be store bought or made at home, here is a different take on a much tastier version.
Silly Putty
You will need only 2 ingredients for this one:
Corn starch or Maizena.
Yogurt (we used strawberry yogurt). Make sure it’s a yogurt without chunks of fruit.
Plain yoghurt and add a few drops of food colouring to make it more interesting.
Directions
Mix together 1 cup of yogurt and 3/4 cups of corn starch.
When the mixture is no longer sticky, pick it up and roll the putty into a ball (to further mix the yogurt and corn starch).
If it’s too sticky, sprinkle in additional corn starch. If it’s too dry, add a bit more yogurt.
* It does not store, so make a fresh batch each time your kiddos want to play
Gloop or Oobleck.
Gloop or oobleck is an interesting mixture with a unique texture and is great for sensory play. It is also great for learning about the concepts of what a solid and what a liquid is.
What you will need:
2 cups of cornflour
1 cup of water
Food colouring
A large container or bowl
Directions:
Place the cornflour into a large container and place a few drops of colouring into the centre. Have the water ready for your child to pour into the container.
Sensory play arouses children’s imaginations, creativity and curiosity through exploration of texture, temperature and fun!
ENJOY PLAYING!!!
